The Mayor of Poplar attended a special service at Bow Church for The Day of National Prayer. That night the Blitz started.
The chancel roof of Bow Church collapses which leads to major restoration work being undertaken on the church by local architect, Osborn C Hills of 147 Bow Road. He is the son of a former Bow Church churchwarden. A temporary iron church is erected so that services can continue.
23 September 1891
The church is reopened after refurbishment with a grand service. In his sermon, the Bishop of Bedford said: "The dead would rise from their graves if they allowed this beautiful church to fall into ruins."
24/25 September 1915
The Battle of Loos is the first battle honour of the Stepney and Poplar Rifles. The makeshift cross with the names of the fallen that was made during the battle is in the War Memorial Chapel.
