We are delighted that you are considering getting married at Bow Church, and wish you every blessing as you prepare for this special day.
If one of you meets one of the following criteria, the process should be straightforward.
+ Live in the parish
+ Are on Bow Church’s Electoral Roll - the list of people who are currently recognised as members of the Church
+ Has a strong past link with the Church i.e. christened here, parents married here, attended the sunday school etc.
If you would like to be married at Bow Church and think you qualify, please contact the Rector or let us know by using the Contact Us page. You will need to fill in an application form, and the Rector will explain the legal requirements and take you through the process.
The announcement that you plan to marry, known as 'calling the banns', is made in church on three Sundays. If there is no legal objection, the wedding can then take place within three months.
If one of you lives in another parish, the banns will also have to be called there too.
If one of you is not a British citizen, you will have to apply for a licence from the Registrar General in Tower Hamlets, instead of having your banns called. The Rector will explain the procedure, and it might take a little longer.
The basic costs of a wedding are set out below.
+ Calling of banns - £43
+ Marriage service - £441
+ Verger fees - £50
+ Organist - £100
+ Bells - £160
+ Car parking - £20
+ Making a video or audio recording - £50
The first three costs are always incurred for a wedding at the church and are payable a week before the wedding. Cheques should be made out to 'St Mary's, Bow, PCC'. The others are optional, and should be paid separately.
We look forward to seeing you at Bow Church, and hope that we can work with you to ensure that you have a wonderful wedding.
