We are called to serve the local community by sharing the good news and telling the story of Jesus afresh. In response to Capital Vision 2020, we aim to be people of confidence, compassion and creativity.
We will aim to increase the confidence of our congregation by strengthening its faith and fellowship, discerning and developing everyone’s gifts, and increasing the number of people involved in Sunday worship.
We aim to do this by our programme of:
+ Bible studies for both long term members of the congregation and newcomers
+ the Christian meditation group teaching contemplative prayer
+ quiet days
+ discernment prayer group
+ developing local leadership through training opportunities.
We will aim to show Christ’s compassion by:
+ supporting a food distribution, befriending and advice service in conjunction with local partners
+ a group for parents/carers and babies/toddlers
+ pastoral care for the congregation through the work of the pastoral group
+ having the church open to offer prayer and listening
+ inviting local schools and other community groups to use the church as a resource
+ having collections for international charities.
We will aim to be creative in sharing the gospel and making links with the wider community by:
+ offering history tours to take advantage of interest in Bow Church
+ performing a variety of concerts
+ running a slimming club - Bow Bellies
+ holding film evenings in a local pub, The Bow Bells
+ performing another historical drama in 2014.
We will continue to care for the historic building in order to maintain a presence in Bow by developing medium term and longer term plans for the maintenance of the church and churchyard:
+ to make the building fully accessible for disabled people
+ to develop the non-liturgical part of the building, with a possible extension of the parish room/kitchens to make them suitable for community use
+ to increase the use of the building for concerts and exhibitions (plans for this were started in 2013 and one significant funding bid has been submitted).
We will continue with the stewardship campaign which was run in 2013:
+ to encourage people to see giving as part of their Christian life
+ to ensure a secure financial base to continue to carry out the mission of the church
+ to communicate with fringe members through the Friends scheme
+ to enable us to increase our giving to the Common Fund.
We will continue to be a sanctuary of peacefulness in the middle of the hectic bustle of the inner city.
